Billet Families Needed for Grads.

Host families are needed to billet players of the Cumberland Grads Junior "A" Hockey Club. The Grads have an urgent need for families with spare room in their homes to billet a player for the upcoming season. The players have strict rules to follow while staying with their billet familes and are generally either in school or at the rink - which is five days per week. As well, keep in mind that the Grads compensates the family on a weekly basis for billeting the player. Please call the Grads hockey office at 613-835-4297 for further details.

Time and Money Commitment

The amount of time and money required to play minor hockey depends on which of our three associations your child plays in.

Time

CMHA House League is the least time commitment between 1-2 hours of ice time per week depending on the age. Cumberland Junior Grads is a greater time commitment and the Wild AAA is the most time commitment.

In House League , the 5 year olds are on the ice 1 hour per week. The 6 year olds are on for 2 hours per week. Older age levels are mainly on the ice for 2 hours per week. This consists of one 1 hour practice and one 1 hour game. Teams usually purchase additional practice ice and may participate in in-town and out-of-town tournaments and friendly exhibition games.

  • IP, Novice, Atom and Peewee will generally have ice time on weekends.
  • Bantam, Midget and Juvenile can play on any night.

Don't forget to take in account travel time to and from arenas and dressing room time.

Junior Grads and Wild AAA teams have more practices, games and tournaments. Many of these are mid-week.

NOTE - hockey and ringette are very popular in this city. There are many adult leagues, youth leagues and hockey schools all trying to obtain precious hours of ice from the city. Also, with a growing community, the number of teams is also growing. For this reason, our regular season schedule is not created until end of September once registration winds down. Then our practice schedule is produced based on the number of teams and game schedule. For these reasons, it is difficult to tell you which days & times your child will be practicing or playing games on prior to registration.

Travelling:

House League teams have all practices in our neighbourhood areas (Ray Friel, Cumberland, Orleans Rec Ctr, Navan etc..) in the east end of the city.

Our teams play in a league run by the Gloucester Hockey Association (GHA), so the Novice to Juvenile teams play against other teams from Orleans, Blackburn Hamlet, Gloucester Centre, Leitrim, Russell and Metcalfe. Essentially, the former city of Gloucester. At the 5/6yr old IP level, teams do not play in the GHA so their on-ice activites are in our local arenas (i.e. Ray Frield, Navan, Cumberland, Orleans, Potvin).

Your team may also register in tournaments both in and out of town tournaments or play in.

Junior Grads teams will also practice at neighbourhood arenas, but will tend to travel more for games and out of town tournaments.

Wild AAA teams will travel a great deal more due to the geographic area their league covers.

Money:

Our registration fees vary according to age level. See the registration form or click HERE for this year's fees.

Each of the three associations have additional fees. Click HERE to learn more about those fees.
